Where we procure flexibility

Our network planning processes identify where we need flexibility services, and we publish this in our Distribution Network Options Assessment (DNOA).

To date we have sought flexibility in over 2,000 locations in our network, and we publish all our requirements, as well as previous results on National Grid’s Connected Data Portal (CDP).

Constraint Management Zones (where we need Flexibility) are available across all four of our license areas – East Midlands, West Midlands, South West, and South Wales.

To facilitate as much participation as possible, we procure flexibility across two timeframes, Short Term and Long Term.

Short Term Opportunities

These are procured a week ahead for delivery the following week. These are ongoing and available all year round, with peaks over the winter.

Long Term Opportunities

These are procured once a year, for delivery over a 12 month period.

Please see our Engagement and Procurement Timetable for full details on procurement dates.

If you want to check if your assets fall into one of the open zones, then you can use the tools below. The most accurate way is with the asset MPAN, which our Flexibility Team can check for you, please feel free to contact us.
