Our Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES) outline the range of credible futures for the growth of the distribution network, broadly aligning with the National Energy System System Operator's (NESO’s) Future Energy Scenarios (FES). It is the first stage of our network investment planning process that will ensure our network is ready for a decarbonised future.
Broadly aligning with the NESO Future Energy Scenarios, these encompass the growth of demand, storage and distributed generation, also low carbon technologies such as Electric Vehicles and Heat Pumps. We work with Regen to create the Distribution Future Energy Scenarios for each licence area on an annual cycle that can be seen below.

This map shows the growth of different technologies across our licence area from now to 2050 according to the DFES scenario framework. It allows you to see how different technologies will grow across different scenarios every year from now until 2050 and you are able to view this by Electricity Supply Area (ESA) or by local authority.
We work with Regen to create the DFES for each licence area on a yearly cycle. You can find our latest and previous DFES studies for each licence area here.
This report gives an in depth review of how the DFES volumes are assigned an electrical profile for the purposes of strategic network analysis. Simply, it shows the methodology behind how we get to our forecasted numbers.
